Lower Gwynedd Township is warning its residents of an uptick in thefts from motor vehicles.

Across the nation, there has been an uptick in thefts from vehicles, and Lower Gwynedd Township is not immune from these crimes.

Thefts from vehicles had often been committed as a “crime of opportunity” in the past, however, due to the potential high yield with little work, sophisticated rings are targeting neighborhoods in the middle of the night, according to police.

Thefts from vehicles occur when a criminal breaks into or opens an unlocked vehicle to steal contents inside.

Lower Gwynedd has provided some common-sense tips to help safeguard your property:

  • Remove all personal belongings from the car or keep them out of sight;
  • Park in a well-lit area or near other cars;
  • Always lock your doors and roll all windows up
  • Invest in surveillance cameras such as Ring, Arlo or Blink for your driveway, entry points
  • Trust your instincts and call Lower Gwynedd Police Department if you hear anything suspicious.
