The Ambler Borough Police Department continues to seek the whereabouts of a man on the county’s Most Wanted list.
Stemming from an incident on Feb. 19, 2023, the Ambler police have been on the lookout for Deonte Nasir Davis, 27, the last known address in the 5100 block of Leiper Street of Philadelphia, ever since. He is wanted on many various felony charges such as burglary, robbery, kidnapping, and firearm offenses, among other charges, police said.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, around 11:25 p.m., Davis along with two other individuals later identified as Baheejah Alwan and Samaj Dawkins, all wearing face masks to conceal their identities, entered an Ambler apartment as Davis brandished a gun.
Police said that Davis held a gun at the occupant’s head and that Alwan used duct tape to cover her mouth, bind her feet, and bind her hands on the living room floor. According to the affidavit, the three then spent about 45 minutes ransacking the apartment, stealing computers, handbags, shoes, an Apple Watch, checkbook, jewelry, and a single ring valued at $25,000 alone.
Police said that the three left the apartment after midnight, now Feb. 20, 2023, taking the victim with them, forcing her into the backseat of a red sedan. There, the victim was positioned in the back seat, middle seat, between Dawkins and another unknown black male who’d joined the group, police said.
According to statements, the victim said she was slapped about the head as the vehicle got on a highway toward Philadelphia. A trip lasting around 40 minutes went on without stops, according to police. The victim and the four party members entered a row home, later identified by police to be in the 2500 block of North Sydenham Street in Philadelphia, the residence of Alwan.
After being taken by the four to an upstairs bedroom in the home, the victim lost consciousness during a sexual assault after being left alone with Davis.
The group kept the victim hostage for around two days at the location, as various people remained in the home with her, never leaving her alone, the affidavit said. She was later taken, at nighttime, to a second location in the 7100 block of North 15th Street also in Philadelphia, said police. Remaining there for around 90 minutes, the victim was then taken by a male via Uber to her apartment, as the kidnappers wanted to obtain more information and money, police said. As the male exited the vehicle, the victim was able to instruct the Uber driver to drive away while she was still inside, said the report.
Police said that the victim was then able to reach her apartment, which was unlocked, find her cell phone, and reach police for assistance at that time. Police were able to view alerts of the victim’s phone that showed a DoorDash delivery of Dunkin’ Donuts was delivered to the address where she was held hostage, including an image showing the numerical portion of the address on the house, said reports. Additionally, an Amazon delivery was ordered from the victim’s Macbook and sent to the same address, police said.
Philadelphia police were called to an M&T Bank after one male was attempting to cash a $1,500 check from the victim’s account on Feb. 21, police said. On March 2, police executed a search warrant for the Sydenham Street home where the victim was held where they recovered an assortment of the victim’s belongings, reports said. When Alwan returned, she also had a key fob which accesses the victim’s apartment on her person, according to police.
Davis faces a long list of charges, including nine first degree felonies, four second-degree felonies, and eight third-degree felonies, and 12 various misdemeanors, including various burglary, conspiracy, robbery, theft, kidnapping, forgery, assault, and other related offenses. He remains at large and has been on the Montgomery County’s Most Wanted List since the incident.
Davis’ accomplices have been found guilty of their crimes, with Alwan serving time in the SCI Cambridge Springs state correctional institution since Nov. 21, 2024. She will serve five to 20 years after pleading guilty to both robbery and kidnapping.
Dawkins accepted a guilty plea bargain, admitting to guilt in both robbery and kidnapping felonies, and is the process of serving three to six years for his crimes.
Davis is described as a black male, around 6’2” in height, weighing around 160 pounds. He is said to have tattoos on his face, above and below his right eye, as seen in his mugshot-style picture.
