RESCUE OF THE WEEK

Rescue of The Week: The one you can’t take home... yet

This week’s rescue is a little bit different because Gobble is not ready to be adopted.

Traditionally, we have featured dogs each week that were immediately available for adoption through Home At Last Dog Rescue (HAL). This week’s rescue is a little bit different because Gobble is not ready to be adopted. However, his story provides us with a great opportunity to highlight some of the effort and care that goes into preparing a dog for finding their forever home. “Rescuing” a dog or animal does not always mean “adopting” them.

Gobble arrived in the care of HAL near the end of November 2024. He was immediately placed in the category of a “special needs medical dog.” This makes the dog unavailable for adoption and focuses efforts on treating the dog for its medical needs. In the case of Gobble, when he arrived, all four of his limbs were abducted, meaning his legs were positioned in an outward direction at an abnormal angle. He was able to walk a bit, with lots of assistance and encouragement.

Over the past few weeks, Gobble has been in a foster home in Blue Bell, working to strengthen his muscles and increase his mobility. While he has made a lot of progress, he still has a lot of work to do. This week he will be visiting a specialist to get some x-rays and other testing to determine what the next phase of treatment should be.

HAL believes it’s just as important to save a medical dog, as it is any other dog. Over 1,500 dogs were placed in their forever homes last year through HAL, with roughly 50 of those being dogs needing expensive medical care, like Gobble. HAL holds fundraisers year-round to support all of its rescue dogs. Additionally, a portion of some dog's adoption fees go to the nonprofit’s medical fund.

One of the primary sources that enables HAL to rescue so many dogs comes from the generosity of its donors. Some people may not be able to have or care for a pet, but still want to help save one. Gobble is just that dog. HAL has rescued him, and is now asking for help, to get him the medical care he needs, to live his life to the fullest.

If you would like to contribute to Gobble’s recovery and medical needs, you can visit www.homeatlastdogrescue.com to donate. HAL also accepts Venmo, @HomeAtLast-DogRescue. In addition to monetary gifts, HAL also needs food and supply donations for its dogs. If you would like to donate supplies, please click here to make arrangements.
