The search for a new principal at Wissahickon Middle School continues as school officials look to zero in on the right candidate.
The Wissahickon School Board previously held meetings with staff and families and conducted anonymous surveys online to gather additional input in an effort to create the right candidate profile.
The application window only remains open for another few weeks until Feb. 7 (though the school has indicated that it already has received a number of applications already).
The position will be vacant after current principal Beth Bauer announced in December 2024 that she will be stepping down at the end of the school year. Bauer served as principal for the last 22 years and was appointed to the position in July 2002.
“The plan remains [to] screen applications and interview candidates in the February/March timeframe, have the Board vote on a finalist candidate in early April and have the new principal be ready to hit the ground running on July 1,” Superintendent James Crisfield said.
Qualifications that Wissahickon is looking for include:
"At Wissahickon we are looking for individuals who will foster equity and inclusion in our schools, seeking to create a learning community in which all students and staff are appreciated, inspired, and equipped to engage and excel," the school wrote.
Wissahickon Middle School serves 1,200 students in 6th grade through 8th grade.
