Due to inclement weather, the Upper Dublin Parks and Recreation department recently announced that is postponing Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service volunteer events scheduled for Monday, Jan. 20.
The township had planned for invasive plant removal and a community clean-up that day, but indicated that it would still have those events at a later date.
The township advised its residents to check back on its website for future updates.
Since most schools and places of business will be closed for the federal holiday, there are still opportunities for people to volunteer around town at different MLK celebrations.
You can volunteer at a number of indoor events that won’t be as impacted by the snow.
These include:
Upper Dublin High School: The students of Upper Dublin High School invite you to support their service activities honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community members are invited to bring items to donate or participate in their service.
Upper Moreland High School: Facilitated by the Class of 2028, National Junior Honor Society, National Elementary Honor Society, and K-Kids, UM is inviting students, families and community members to participate in a meaningful project supporting Project Linus. Help create handmade blankets for children who are seriously ill, enduring trauma, or otherwise in need. UMHS students and staff will help facilitate this activity, & all supplies needed to make blankets will be provided. Help stock the food pantries in our UM schools, which directly support our students & families in need. Drop off donations on-site during this event. Requested Donation Items: Cheese & peanut butter crackers, microwavable macaroni & cheese, microwavable ramen noodles, individual chip bags, individual cereal containers, individual juice, water bottles, Gatorade, Pop-Tarts / granola bars, individually wrapped snack items, canned goods, pasta, rice, pasta sauce peanut butter, soups, oatmeal, cereal, toiletries and can openers.
Perkiomen Watershed Association: Volunteers will assist Conservancy staff in cleaning containers and trays used to propagate native plants in our greenhouse.
