Senator Collett delivers $250k for career & technical education in Montgomery County

Three grants in the amounts of $80,000 to $85,000 were issued to local schools.

Senator Maria Collett (D-12 Montgomery) is proud to announce $250,000 in Competitive Equipment Grant funding to benefit students at local career and technical centers (CTCs). 

“Pennsylvania’s career and technical centers provide students with the tools, skills and hands-on training they need to confidently and successfully enter the workforce,” Senator Collett said. “I’m proud to support the CTCs serving my district and know these funds and upgrades will allow students to better compete in a number of in-demand industries – from nursing and firefighting to construction and engineering.”

Grant recipients serving the 12th Senate District:

  • Central Montco Technical High School: $80,000
  • Eastern Center for Arts & Technology: $85,000
  • North Montco Tech Career Center: $85,000

Through the Competitive Equipment Grant program, Pennsylvania Department of Education awards up to $85,000 to eligible CTCs to update or purchase equipment used for approved career and technical education programs. In the most recent round of funding, the Department awarded $4.5 million to 58 career and technical centers and school districts across the Commonwealth.

According to guidelines, criteria for equipment used by students enrolled in PDE-approved CTE programs: 

  • a. Supports student hands-on training in approved CTE programs that have high placement for employment; 
  • Meets industry standards based on OAC recommendations; 
  • Costs $3,000.00 or more per unit; 
  • Is discussed and recommended by the OAC; 
  • Retains its original shape, appearance, and character with use;
  • Does not lose its identity through fabrication or incorporation into a differentor October 2024 7 more complex unit or substance, or when unbundling the unit; 
  • Is nonexpendable, which means that if the item is damaged or some of its parts are lost or worn out, it is more feasible to repair the item than to replace it withan entire new unit; and 
  • Can be expected to serve its principal purpose for more than a 12-month fiscal period, under normal conditions of use, including reasonable care and maintenance.
  • No vehicle purchased may be used for transporting students and use of the vehicle outside of the classroom setting is prohibited. All budget figures must be rounded to the nearest dollar.
