The Phillies will have two representatives at this month's All-Star Game in Atlanta in Zack Wheeler and Kyle Schwarber.
Wheeler will be an All-Star for the second consecutive season, and third time overall in his career. Wheeler would seem to be in competition with Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates to be the starter for the National League.
On the same day Zack Wheeler learned he was selected to the All-Star Game for the third time, he turned in one of the most dominant outings of his career.

He celebrated his All-Star selection by pitching a complete-game one hitter against the Cincinnati Reds, making his case for getting the ball first for the NL. It would be particularly noteworthy for Wheeler to start this year considering that he's from Georgia.
"Yeah, it would be really cool," Wheeler acknowledged. "It would be an honor, for sure."
Like Wheeler, Schwarber is also an All-Star for the third time in his career. Schwarber will represent the Phillies for the second time in the Midsummer Classic, as he was also an All-Star in 2022. Schwarber is having the finest season of his excellent career, as he entered the day hitting .250 with 27 home runs, 62 RBIs, 63 walks and a .922 OPS. Unfortunately for him, Shohei Ohtani will be the starting DH for the NL.
"It means a lot," Schwarber said of his selection. "You want to represent your organization ... your team ... and obviously yourself. I feel like that you're putting in work and to get recognized is pretty cool. It's definitely something that's not overlooked, right?"

Still, it's a bit surprising that the Phillies only have two All-Stars right now. Trea Turner, Cristopher Sánchez and Ranger Suárez were all realistic candidates.
Turner is leading the NL in hits, and his 3.9 WAR was tied with Kyle Tucker and James Wood for third among senior-circuit position players at the start of play Sunday, per FanGraphs. Turner wasn't picked, with Francisco Lindor starting and Elly De La Cruz picked as a reserve.
Sánchez was an All-Star last season, and the 28-year-old is putting together another tremendous campaign. In 17 starts, Sánchez is 7-2 with a 2.68 ERA, 2.86 FIP and 2.7 WAR, which is sixth among NL starters.
Suárez missed all of April with a back injury, but has been a machine since returning. Over 12 outings this season, Suárez has pitched to a minuscule 1.99 ERA, while making 10 quality starts.
It's entirely possible that any of those three will still be added as replacements for those who get injured or drop out. Sánchez, for example, was a replacement last season. From here, Turner feels like the most egregious snub among those on the Phillies that didn't get picked.
