The high school baseball season may already be over, but the competition continues at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School

On Wednesday, June 8, sports talk radio hosts Joe DeCamera and Jack Fritz from 94.1 WIP will be competing against each other on the Colonials’ field at noon.

The competition is part of a five-event showdown designed to settle a playful but heated debate over who the better athlete is. The contest includes golf, baseball, tennis, running, and basketball.

Locally, Patrick McGrain and his son, Brady, will serve as the guest umpires. Players from the Plymouth Whitemarsh baseball team will serve as fielders in the competition.

The overall competition kicked off on June 29 with a dramatic golf match at RiverWinds Golf & Tennis Club, where DeCamara edged out Fritz in a 10-hole sudden death finish. Fritz later described the loss as “one of the worst days of my life” on social media, underscoring how seriously both are taking the rivalry.

Now, Fritz, a former high school and college baseball pitcher at Bloomsburg University, is looking to even up the competition on the diamond.

Tennis, running, and basketball events are still to be scheduled, but all will contribute to the overall best-of-five series. The running component is expected to tie into Jack Fritz’s separate but related attempt to run a mile in under eight minutes by August 11, part of his campaign to earn official “athlete” status on the station.

The showdown has become a source of ongoing entertainment for WIP listeners, with both hosts making regular appearances to talk trash and hype their chances. DeCamara, who has already taken a 1–0 lead in the series, has praised Fritz’s athleticism, but questioned whether he can deliver under pressure.

The “event” is free for all attendees. Fans are encouraged to come out and show their support, or give friendly jabs at the talk show hosts.
