Area residents across Montgomery County can help students get prepared to head back to school with the annual Back-to-School Drive.

Hosted by Montgomery County, the annual event solicits school supplies to be distributed to low income families across the county to set children up for success for the 2025-26 school year.

The drive will take place until Friday, Aug. 22, according to a Montgomery County spokesperson.

“I think there’s just something very intrinsically motivating for the kids to know that I got something brand new that’s going to support my learning, and I think it helps them come to school every day just with an excitement about what the possibilities are,” Norristown Area School District Superintendent Christopher Dormer told MediaNews Group last year.

Those interested in contributing can purchase items via an online Amazon wish list or drop off donations to the main entrance of the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, located at 1430 DeKalb St. in Norristown.

County officials hope to encourage participation from area residents, business owners and community organizations. The following items are requested: backpacks, binders, notebooks, folders, crayons, colored pencils, markers, scientific calculators, flash drives, lunch bags, pencil cases, headphones, as well as tissues, hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes.

Anyone with questions can contact Veronica Hilghman, an administrative assistant at the county’s Office of Children and Youth at 610-278-5885. Visit montgomerycountypa.gov/HHSDonations for more information.
