Whitpain Township Police Department honors retired Police Sergeant John Blake

On Saturday, July 12, retired Whitpain Township Police Sergeant John Blake passed away at the age of 86. He served the community of Whitpain Township for 30 years.

A graduate of Wissahickon High School and Montgomery County Community College, Sergeant Blake went on to serve his country in the United States Navy before dedicating his career to law enforcement.

Throughout his life, Sergeant Blake remained deeply involved in the community, particularly with the youth of Blue Bell. He found his calling in youth mentorship, town watch initiatives, and crime prevention programs. After retiring from the police force in 1995, he remained active through membership in numerous organizations, including the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #14, Patriotic Sons of America, Knights of Columbus, Catholic War Veterans, among others.

"Sergeant Blake will be greatly missed for his service, dedication, and warm personality," Whitpain Township Police Department wrote. "May he rest in peace."

According to his obituary, was passionately involved in youth mentorship, town watch initiatives, and crime prevention programs. He was a strong advocate for at-risk youth, working not only with children but also their families. He visited local schools often, championing safety and education, and was a proud instructor of the D.A.R.E. Program.

He was a member of F.O.P. Lodge #14, serving as its President in 1976, and was also involved with the Patriotic Order Sons of America, Knights of Columbus, Catholic War Veterans, Pennsylvania Juvenile Officers Association (past president), Montgomery County Juvenile Advisory Committee (past chairman), International Juvenile Officers Association, Crime Prevention Officers Association, and the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners. He also served on the Board of Directors for Turning Point, Inc.
