SEPTA has announced scheduled overnight slab jacking work at the Plymouth Road grade crossing, located at Gwynedd Valley Station between Evans Road and Grasshopper Lane.
The project, which began late last night, takes place during the overnight hours, and it expected to wrap up on Tuesday, July 29, from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. the next morning.
This essential maintenance is aimed at correcting imperfections in the road surface where the tracks cross Plymouth Road. The work will be carried out by a third-party contractor, with assistance from SEPTA’s Track Department.
Slab jacking is a process that lifts and levels uneven concrete surfaces. At this crossing, crews are drilling holes directly through the track area, and pumping foam underneath to elevate and realign the crossing surface.
Residents can expect detours and potential traffic congestion near the crossing. Loud construction noises, including drilling and tamping, will be taking place. There also will be bright lighting around the work zone for safety and visibility, according to officials.
While the work takes place adjacent to SEPTA's Regional Rail tracks, train service is expected to continue with only minor delays. Some trains may operate in single-track mode through the area during the repair window.
