Jefferson Health Hospitals recognized by the Pennsylvania Perinatal Quality Collaborative for Continuous Quality Improvement in Maternal and Newborn Care

Jefferson Health hospitals have been recognized by the Pennsylvania Perinatal Quality Collaborative with Designation Awards for their commitment to continuous quality improvement in maternal and newborn care. PA PQC provides support to healthcare teams to enhance the standard of care and improve health outcomes for patients and babies. The organization identified prevalent perinatal health issues across Pennsylvania and to address these challenges, created initiatives, including: Maternal Opioid Use Disorder; Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome; Maternal Sepsis; and Safe Sleep for hospitals to focus on for quality improvement.

Hospitals honored with Designation Awards formed multidisciplinary teams, selected one or more initiatives that impact maternal and newborn outcomes, and developed and implemented a quality improvement plan and protocols to put the plan into practice making continuous improvements. The teams submitted surveys, data and quality improvement reports on a quarterly basis for each initiative they worked on and shared best practices in their hospitals and community. The Designation Awards and levels are based on meeting quality improvement milestone criteria over a 12-month period from April 2024 to March 2025.

“Congratulations to our clinical teams and staff for their hard work and dedication in improving care to our new mothers and babies,” said Amanda Flicker, MD, CPE, FACOG, interim clinical leader, Women’s Health Service Line, Jefferson Health, & chair, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Lehigh Valley Health Network. “Reaching the prescribed milestones demonstrates the exceptional care our teams provide to patients and families.”
