The Wissahickon School District has announced the appointment of Mrs. Kelly Carter as the new principal of Stony Creek Elementary School.
The appointment was made official as the School Board approved Carter's new position at the June 2 Board Meeting.
Mrs. Carter will replace Mrs. Stephanie Washam, who served as the principal of the elementary school since September 2023.
"it is a true honor to join the Wissahickon School District community," Carter said. "I am eager to support and inspire our youngest learners, collaborate with our dedicated professionals, and engage meaningfully with our supportive families. I look forward to contributing to a culture of belonging and excellence."
Mrs. Carter joins WSD from Central Bucks School District, where she has been an elementary school principal since 2017 (first at Gayman Elementary School, and more recently at Groveland Elementary School).
Prior to that, she worked in several other positions at Central Bucks, including Supervisor of Reading, English as a Second Language, and Federal Programs, elementary school assistant principal, staff development facilitator, and classroom teacher in grades 1, 5 and 6.
Mrs. Carter has earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and English from the College of New Jersey, a master’s degree in Educational Policy Studies from the University of Virginia, and supervisor and principal certifications from St. Joseph’s University. Additionally, she is currently enrolled in the doctorate program at Moravian University, with a focus on Transformational Leadership.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Mrs. Carter as the new principal of Stony Creek Elementary School,” said incoming Superintendent Dr. Mwenyewe Dawan. “Her depth of experience, especially in leading inclusive school communities and supporting diverse learning needs, makes her excellent match for this role. We also want to extend our sincere gratitude to Mrs. Washam for her dedicated leadership over the past two years. We look forward to the care, collaboration, and instructional leadership Mrs. Carter will bring to our students, staff, and families.”
Opportunities for staff, families and students to meet their new principal will be scheduled and shared as soon as details are available.
Mrs. Carter will start in Wiss Nation this summer, but an exact date is still to be determined.
