The last day of school was "bittersweet" as the Wissahickon School District said goodbye to a valuable member of the community.
Crossing guard Norlaine Romano helped her last student get to school as the year came to a close last week. After 19 years, Ms. Romano is officially retiring.
“After 19 years of dedicated service as a crossing guard, Norlaine Romano leaves an indelible mark on the Wissahickon School District," said Wissahickon School District Business Manager Tim Bricker. "Her steady presence, warm smile, and commitment to student safety have made a lasting difference in the lives of countless families. We are deeply grateful for her many years of service and wish her all the best in her well-earned retirement."
The Ambler Borough Police Department congratulated her on a job well done, and a deserved retirement.
"It’s not goodbye but a hello to a new way. Ms. Romano's last day on her post was the last day of school, and all made her know that she would be missed. After 19 years at her post, this was a bitter sweet day. Thank you for your service to the community."
On May 16, members of the community, including Ambler Mayor Jennie Sorg, helped celebrate the special milestone with a get together at Fireside Bar & Grill, 1211 S Bethlehem Pike in Ambler.
