HOT HEAT

Weather forecast calls for dangerously hot day in Ambler, surrounding communities on Tuesday

While the sun will be out for much of the day, haze and humidity will limit visibility and make the air feel heavier

  • Local

It's going to be another hot one today.

According to the weather forecast, Willow Grove residents should expect a hazy and mostly sunny day with oppressive heat and humidity. While the sun will be out for much of the day, haze and humidity will limit visibility and make the air feel heavier.

Temperature

High: Around 98°F

Low: Approximately 77°F

These are actual air temperatures: when factoring in the humidity, the heat index ("feels like" temperature) could rise as high as 110°F during peak afternoon hours.

Humidity

Very high humidity levels (above 65%) will persist throughout the day, significantly increasing discomfort and heat stress risks.

Wind

Light southwest wind at 5–10 mph, offering little relief from the heat.

Be Aware

An Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect for the entire region through at least Thursday evening. This is a serious warning that signals a high risk of heat-related illness, especially for older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and those without air conditioning.

How to Stay Safe

  • Stay hydrated – sip water regularly.
  • Avoid peak sun hours (10 AM–6 PM) and strenuous outdoor tasks.
  • Dress smart – light, breathable clothing, wide-brimmed hat, and SPF 30+ sunscreen.
  • Seek cool places – use air conditioning or visit public cooling centers and libraries.
  • Check on others – especially the elderly, young children, and pets. Don’t leave anyone in parked cars.
  • Know heat illness signs:
    • Exhaustion: heavy sweating, weakness, nausea
    • Stroke: confusion, hot/dry skin, rapid pulse — call 911 immediately

The National Weather Service has issued some tips to stay safe in the heat:

  • While at home, an emergency heat safety plan should include:
  • Run air conditioning if you have it. If not, spend time in public spaces like malls, libraries, or cooling centers.
  • Keep curtains or blinds closed during the day to block sunlight and reduce indoor heat.
  • Limit oven or stove use to keep indoor temperatures down.
  • Use fans in well-ventilated rooms — but note: fans alone do not prevent heat illness when temps are above 95°F.
