Gwynedd Mercy University student-athletes were recently recognized for their academic achievements by the University and the Atlantic East Conference (AEC). This past spring, 158 Griffins were named to GMercyU’s Academic Elite. GMercyU established the Academic Elite in 2021 to honor student-athletes who earn a grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 or higher in a given semester.
The top performing teams at GMercyU this spring were the Men’s Cross Country team, earning a 3.66 GPA, and the Women’s Cross Country team, earning a GPA of 3.80. Overall, GMercyU student-athletes had a cumulative GPA of 3.39 for the 2024-2025 academic year.
In addition to the 158 student-athletes named to the Academic Elite, 161 Griffins were named to the AEC All-Academic team. To be eligible for the AEC All-Academic Team, student-athletes must earn a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher for the fall and spring semesters, earn a varsity letter in their respective sport, use a season of eligibility per the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and meet all other NCAA eligibility requirements.
"158 student-athletes earned a 3.5 or better this spring," said Gwynedd Mercy University Director of Athletics Keith Mondillo. "Our semester GPA (Grade Point Average) was a 3.44, which puts the Griffins at a 3.39 for 2024-2025. Coach Jasowak's cross country teams continue to achieve our highest team GPA's, but I would be remissed not to mention the outstanding work of our women's basketball, women's lacrosse, women's indoor track and field, women's soccer, softball, and women's volleyball teams, who all turned in team GPA's of 3.5 or higher!"
The men's cross country team scored a 3.66 GPA, while the women's cross country team reported a 3.80 GPA. Established in the fall of 2021, the Gwynedd Mercy University Academic Elite award honors student-athletes who earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the given semester.
The AEC also honors the teams in the conference with the highest cumulative GPA. This year, the Baseball, Softball, and Women’s Lacrosse teams were recognized for their academic performance. Baseball earned a 3.37 GPA, Softball earned a 3.66 GPA, and Women’s Lacrosse earned a 3.59 GPA.
