The Wissahickon School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Sean Gardiner as the district’s new Assistant Superintendent. Dr. Gardiner was approved by a unanimous vote of the Wissahickon Board of School Directors on March 3, 2025.
Dr. Gardiner comes to Wissahickon after serving for over 10 years in the Upper Merion Area School District as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Education. Prior to his service in Upper Merion, Dr. Gardiner was the Supervisor of Mathematics and Gifted Education in the Norristown School District, which followed eight years of classroom experience in Maryland, Connecticut and Pennsylvania as a high school math teacher.
Dr. Gardiner received his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Towson University, and then earned a Master’s degree in Communications from The University of Connecticut and a Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Widener University.
Dr. Gardiner rose to the top of a very competitive candidate pool, which resulted from an extensive, months-long search conducted by the district with the assistance of the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU). “Dr. Gardiner is a perfect fit for this district, as he blends a commitment to academic excellence with a deep understanding of and appreciation for the importance of relationship building,” said Dr. James A. Crisfield, Superintendent of Schools.
Incoming Superintendent Dr. Mwenyewe Dawan added, “Dr. Gardiner brings extensive experience in educational leadership and a firm commitment to student success. His expertise and vision make him a valuable addition to our exceptional team of administrators. As I transition into the role of superintendent, I look forward to working alongside him to foster innovation, excellence, and continued growth across our schools.”
Board President Amy Ginsburg said, "The Board is enthusiastic about welcoming Dr. Gardiner to our team. His impressive background and proven leadership experience, combined with his vision for our district, positioned him as the ideal candidate for the role of assistant superintendent. We are certain that Dr. Dawan and he, together, will deliver outstanding results for our district."
Dr. Gardiner will begin his role as Wissahickon’s Assistant Superintendent on June 11, 2025.
