Malcolm White, 39, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was sentenced to three to six years in a state correctional institution after he pleaded guilty to a violent incident where he punched and strangled a woman in  Whitpain Township, according to The Reporter

White pleaded guilty to a felony charge of aggravated assault attempt to cause serious bodily injury stemming from the incident in a parking lot off Jolly Road in Whitpain Township.

“The memory of being strangled lingers, and with it, the terrifying thought that it could have been my last breath, the last moment I would be a mother to my two young children, the last time I would be a wife, the last time I would exist on this earth,” the woman said in a Montgomery County courtroom. “While the physical wounds have healed, the invisible scars remain. I carry them in my heart, my mind and my soul.”

On June 16, 2022, shortly after 10 a.m., police responded to the parking lot in the 900 block of Jolly Road for a report of a woman who had just been assaulted.

Arriving officers found the victim bleeding from her nose and mouth, and blood was smeared on the center console and driver’s seat of her vehicle as well. There was also a small pool of blood about 10 feet away from the woman’s vehicle, according to court documents filed by Whitpain Township Police.

According to the responding officer, the victim told police that the White grabbed her by her hair and pulled her out of the vehicle. The victim told police that White repeatedly punched her in the face. White then positioned himself behind the woman and put his right elbow around her neck, putting her in a rear chokehold. The woman stated she lost consciousness and fell to the ground for a short period of time, according to police.

The motive for the assault remains unclear. When the woman regained consciousness, she saw the man sitting in the driver’s seat of her vehicle. She quickly got to her feet and ran toward a nearby office building to seek help.

The attacker, later identified as White, fled on foot.

Shortly afterward, police spotted White, who matched the description of the suspect, walking briskly west on Jolly Road before lying down in an area of dense vegetation. Officers from Whitpain and Plymouth townships took him into custody soon after.

White pleaded guilty to the most serious aggravated assault charge. He had also been charged with a lesser misdemeanor charge of strangulation, which was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

While in the county jail awaiting court action for the attack, White punched a correctional officer in the face on June 30, 2022, and attempted to strangle him, according to court papers. The correctional officer suffered bruising and abrasions to his face, head and neck, according to documents.
