TIME CAPSULE

Blue Bell Elementary School unveils its Time Capsule from year 2000

Take a trip back in time 25 years ago as BBE hosted its time capsule event

If the year 2000 seems like it was a lifetime ago, that's because it sort of was. At the turn of the century, our culture was dominated by teen pop stars, boy bands, and the impending doom of "Y2K" fears.

Life seemed simpler back then. The iPhone wasn't invented yet, and anyone who owned a computer had to sit in front of a massive monitor to read their emails, not a handheld, all-in-one device that fits neatly in your pocket.

Opening a time capsule from 25 years ago offers a unique opportunity to journey back to a different era and reflect on how far we've come. Sealed with memories, it holds a collection of artifacts, letters, and items that encapsulate the hopes, dreams, and cultural trends of what life was like in the early 2000s.

Blue Bell Elementary School recently took a trip back in time to the year 2000 when it opened up its Time Capsule on March 22.

The school revealed items that were placed 25 years ago, as well as some predictions. One said, "cars will travel in the air like on 'The Jetson's'," while another predicted, somewhat accurately, "computers will do everything and people will not have to do as much work."

You can see the items that were pulled from the Time Capsule below, as well as coverage from the event. That same day, Blue Bell Elementary announced its plans for the next Time Capsule unveiling for 2050.
