Breaking: person escapes smoking vehicle after car lands on its side on Route 309, reports say

A person was reportedly stuck in their smoking vehicle after it landed on its side following a car accident on Route 309 Northbound near the on-ramp to Norristown Road, Montgomery County Dispatch reported. 

The incident occurred at 5:33 p.m. in Lower Gwynedd Township and currently is creating a heavy traffic backup on Route 309.

The person was reportedly able to exit a dark colored Kia sedan on their own, and crews arrived on scene to stabilize the vehicle and treat the road with chemicals.

Crews from Wissahickon Fire Company and Community Ambulance Association of Ambler are on scene.

Injuries are unknown at the time of publication.
