Emergency crews respond to apartment fire after resident catches on fire, according to report

The Whitpain Township Police Department and the Centre Square Fire Company responded to a fire at an apartment complex on the 700 block of Elmway Circle on Sunday night.

On Sunday, May 4 at 9:48 p.m., a fire was reported in the upstairs bathroom at an apartment complex in Whitpain Township, according to Centre Square Fire Company Fire Marshal Michael Barnshaw. The fire was contained to the bathroom, and according to Montgomery County dispatch, one of the residents caught fire and had to be transported to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital to treat injuries.

No other apartments were damaged during the blaze, and no residents were displaced. No additional injuries were reported.

Centre Square Fire Company was assisted by the Second Alarmers Rescue Squad, Norristown Fire Department, Harmonvillle Fire Company No. 1, and Norriton Fire Engine Company. 

The Whitpain Township Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating the cause of the fire.
