The demolition of the St. Basil Academy property, located at 711 Fox Chase Road, will begin after nearly a month-long delay, according to an update from Abington Township.
Toll Brothers notified Abington Township that it will begin demolishing the former 90-year-old Ukrainian Catholic girls school that closed during the pandemic due to declining enrollment and financial issues.
Demolition is expected to take approximately 30 to 60 days to complete, depending on weather, site conditions, and any unforeseen delays. Work will generally occur on weekdays, Monday through Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. These hours follow the standard construction schedule and are intended to minimize disruption to the residents who live near the Jenkintown property.
While the majority of work will stay within these hours, there may be occasional instances when work extends past 5:00 p.m. to complete tasks or accommodate scheduling needs. However, in accordance with Township ordinance, no work will take place after 9:00 p.m. under any circumstances.
The Fort Washington-based home builder paid $9.5 million for the property, according to Montgomery County officials. The 46-acre property will be reconstructed into a 55+ community living center that consists of 150 carriage homes with a pool, and a clubhouse on the property.
St. Basil Academy transferred the property to Toll Brothers on February 3. The property was supposed to be demolished on April 14, but Toll Brothers delayed the start of the project.
