To celebrate National Foster Parent Month, the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Children and Youth (OCY) hosted a special recognition luncheon on Sunday, May 18, to honor the invaluable contributions of its Resource Parents - Pennsylvania’s term for foster parents. The event was held at the DeKalb Center Norristown and brought together Resource Parents, agency staff, and County leaders.

“Our Resource Parents provide so much more than a place to stay,” said Nadine Miller, Interim Director of the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services. “They offer safety, compassion, consistency, and hope—things every child deserves. Today, we celebrate and thank them for opening their hearts and homes to children in need.”

Montgomery County currently supports nearly 280 children and youth in foster care due to circumstances preventing them from safely remaining in their own homes. Of those, 147 children and youth are placed with licensed Resource Parents through OCY. The County maintains 133 licensed Resource Homes, including 61 Kinship Care Homes—homes provided by relatives or close family friends.

Resource Parents play a critical role in helping children thrive while in temporary care and as they move toward permanency—whether through reunification with birth families, adoption, or permanent legal custodianship. They provide a nurturing environment that allows children to grow and heal during times of crisis and transition.

Montgomery County is always in need of more Resource Parents, especially for older youth, children with complex needs, and sibling groups.
