Shane Michael Bowman, 28, of the 600 block of Preston Lane in Hatboro, faces a felony charge after getting into a physical altercation with a female, according to police.
Multiple police officers from the Ambler Borough Police Department were dispatched to the 100 block of Butler Avenue on May 24 at 5 a.m. where the victim told police she was involved in a physical dispute with a male who allegedly “hit and choked” her, according to police documents.
The victim told police that she had gone out for drinks with her friends and Bowman at a bar in Warminster. At the end of the night, Bowman wanted to go to another friend’s house, but did not have a way to get there. The victim offered to share an Uber ride with Bowman back to her residence on the 100 block of Forest Avenue in Ambler.
The victim and Bowman hung out at the victim’s house for a little while, but then the victim asked Bowman to leave once she realized how late it was, according to police. Bowman realized he left his cell phone in the Uber, and then asked the victim to order him another Uber back to his house. But the victim refused and repeatedly asked Bowman to leave her house, according to police.
The victim told Bowman that if he did not leave, she would call the police, according to documents. At that point, Bowman ripped the victim’s cell phone out of her hands and ran outside to the front porch.
The victim and Bowman then got into a verbal argument, which led to a physical altercation when Bowman wrestled her to the ground. The victim told police that he dragged her by her hair and hit her, according to police. While on the ground, the victim asked for her phone back, but then Bowman put his hands around her neck and was trying to strangle her, according to police. The victim told police that she believed he was trying to kill her.
The victim began kicking and screaming until Bowman eventually got up, according to police. Bowman then tossed her cell phone and ran away, according to police.
The victim then began walking to Borough Hall in an attempt to contact the police. She encountered a sanitation worker, who allowed her to use his cell phone to contact police.
According to police, there were visible bruise marks and redness around the victim’s neck area, and also suffered a bloody lip and lacerations on her right hip.
While the victim was at the police station giving her statement, Bowman was seen on security video footage in the lobby of the police station, where he was then taken into custody.
Bowman is charged with a felony of strangulation, and faces other charges of simple assault, criminal mischief and harassment.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
