Christopher M. Johnson, 27, of the 700 block of N. 40th Street in Philadelphia, faces a felony charge of aggravated assault after being involved in a physical altercation with a woman in Whitemarsh Township, according to police.

On May 26, police officers from the Whitemarsh Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Crescent Avenue and Kottler Drive for a report of a male striking a female in the face, according to police.

A witness reported to police that she observed a male, later identified as Johnson, slamming car doors and yelling loudly in the street. The male then punched the female with his right hand on the right side of the victim’s head with a closed fist, according to police.

The witness went outside and offered assistance to the victim, but the victim refused, according to police. The victim and the male then got back in the car and traveled on Kottler Drive.

Police eventually located the car, where the female was in the driver’s seat and Johnson was in the passenger seat. After the witness positively identified the subjects and the car, police tried to remove Johnson from the vehicle.

Johnson was uncooperative and refused to exit the car after being asked several times to do so. He braced himself inside the vehicle with his feet against the door frame and his hand on the overhead ceiling door handle. When police attempted to remove him from the car, Johnson attempted to escape to the back seat, according to police. It took two additional officers to get Johnson out of the vehicle, where a minor tussle ensued and all three officers suffered cuts and scrapes, according to police.

Johnson faces charged of aggravated assault on law enforcement, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, reckless endangering and simple assault.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
