Montgomery County officials took to their own bikes to highlight the $45 million now designated to connect several trails across the county.

Elected officials, county representatives and trail enthusiasts gathered at the Cross County trailhead in Plymouth Meeting to showcase multimillion-dollar investments to connect the Cross County with the Wissahickon, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority’s (SEPTA) Fort Washington Station, the Willow Grove YMCA, and the Power Line trails.

The cash infusion is part of more than $200 million in funding to expand circuit trails across the greater Philadelphia region, according to a Montgomery County spokesperson. Representatives from Philadelphia’s collar counties, in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties, advocated for increased funding to upgrade recreational amenities.

“The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission approved this unprecedented level of funding for the region through the 2025 Transportation Improvement Program for Pennsylvania,” a Montgomery County spokesperson said Friday, adding that “$120 million … comes from the new federal Carbon Reduction Program, which invests in alternative transit projects that help reduce emissions.”

The Saturday morning event began with remarks, followed by a bike ride along the Cross County Trail to the SEPTA station in Conshohocken, which consists of roughly 3.5 miles.
