Montgomery County is hosting an open house focused on Section C of the Cross County Trail on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Willow Grove YMCA, 3300 Davisville Road, Hatboro.
The entire Cross County Trail, once complete, is planned to stretch from Conshohocken in the west to the Pennypack Trail in the east, totaling 17.5 miles in all, and will connect with the Schuylkill River, Wissahickon Creek, Cresheim, and Power Line Trails.
In July 2022, the county completed the Cross County Trail East Advanced Feasibility Study for the approximately 5-mile segment of the future Cross County Trail that will extend from Welsh Road in Upper Moreland to the existing Pennypack Trail in Bryn Athyn. Representing the easternmost extent of this 5-mile segment, Section C will be approximately 1.75 miles in length and connect the existing loop trail at the Willow Grove YMCA in Upper Moreland Township with the Pennypack Trail.
This shared-use trail will accommodate pedestrians, cyclists, and equestrians in a largely natural setting along Pennypack Creek.
In 2023, Montgomery County hired Michael Baker International (MBI) to engineer Section C. Since then, the county and MBI have been working together to finalize the trail alignment, initiate the necessary permit applications, and prepare for the process of securing the necessary right-of-way and easements for the trail.
The open house offers an opportunity to learn about the county’s design and engineering work on Section C of the trail. The project team will be sharing informational posters, and the project consultant will give a presentation with project updates at 7 p.m.
To learn more about the project and watch a drone flyover video of the proposed trail route (Section C begins approximately 3 minutes into the 6-minute video), visit www.montgomerycountypa.gov/CrossCountyTrailEast.
