BREAKING: driver crashes into pole at local elementary school, according to report

Emergency crews are responding after a driver crashed into a utility pole Thursday near Gwynedd Mercy Academy Elementary School, according to reports. 

The incident occurred at 12:45 p.m. at 816 Norristown Road, with authorities warning of delays in the area of McKean Road and North Bethlehem Pike.

According to initial reports, the driver struck a pole near the school. Witness accounts indicate the driver appeared disoriented following the crash, with someone at the scene suggesting the driver may have fallen asleep prior to impact.

Emergency medical services were requested, and Second Alarmers Rescue Squad responded to assist.

The extent of any injuries has not been confirmed at this time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area as crews work to manage the scene and investigate the cause of the crash.

At this time, there does not appear to be any threat to students/staff or structure of the building.
