Man faces charges after hit-and-run involving 8-year-old girl, according to police
A Philadelphia man is facing multiple charges after being involved in a hit-and-run accident involving an 8-year-old girl, according to police.
On Oct. 18, around 2:07 p.m., Whitemarsh Township Police responded to a report of a hit-and-run involving a child at 10 Catherine Lane in Plymouth Meeting.
Witnesses said a Hispanic male delivering packages in a silver minivan struck an 8-year-old girl with his driver-side mirror while speeding away. The girl was apparently standing between two parked cars at the time. The driver did not stop, and witnesses captured photos and video of the incident using Ring doorbell cameras.
The victim sustained injuries and was transported to CHOP King of Prussia. Officers located a matching Toyota minivan on the 4000 block of N. Warner Road and stopped the driver, identified as Juan Castillo Custodio, 42, who matched the witness description. Officers observed an orange vest, delivery packages, and damage to the driver-side mirror.
Custodio told police he thought he had hit something but didn’t realize it was a child. He was arrested, transported to the station, and consented to a blood draw at approximately 4:45 p.m.
Custodio is being charged with Accidents Involving Death or Personal Injury and Careless Driving.
Custodio was able to post bail, which was set at $10,000.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Nov. 19, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., before Judge Dara Nasatir.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
