Katherine Essenthier of the Whitpain Township Police Department was recognized by Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele this week for her life-saving actions that rescued a choking baby.

Essenthier received a Law Enforcement Commendation for Exceptional Service during a ceremony at the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Campus, where Steele honored six civilians and 20 law enforcement officers from departments across the county.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, Essenthier was recognized “for saving the life of a choking baby through her determined and thorough efforts.”

The award places the Whitpain officer among a select group of police officers and civilians honored for acts of bravery, quick thinking and exceptional investigative work.

“Montgomery County has some of the finest law enforcement officers anywhere, and I’m honored to be able to showcase their incredible bravery, exceptional work and dedication to protecting and serving Montgomery County residents,” Steele said. “Montgomery County wouldn’t be the safe and wonderful place it is without this teamwork between law enforcement agencies and civilians.”

The ceremony also included some of the county’s highest honors.
